On Sunday, a Republican senator claimed that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had misled to Congress about his interactions with President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.
Emails between Blinken and Biden in 2015 were just revealed. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has responded by saying he would release the transcript of an interview he conducted with Blinken in December 2020, in which Blinken is alleged to have denied any such interactions ever taking place.
“Now that more information has come out, we know that he lied straight to Congress when he said he never emailed Hunter Biden,” Johnson said on Fox News, alluding to a violation for which he faces up to five years in jail.
In an interview with Maria Bartiromo of “Sunday Morning Futures,” he speculated, “My guess is that he told a bunch of other lies.” In the future, “we hope to be able to bring him and his wife back in and tell them to keep their records.” You can’t put your faith in Joe Biden. Never put your faith on Hunter Biden. The Bidens shouldn’t be relied upon. Many of the friends they have made can’t be trusted.
Last week, Fox News covered the emails. Emails between Blinken and Biden Jr., sent while Blinken was still deputy secretary of state in 2015, revealed that the two discussed scheduling a meeting.
Hunter Biden’s longtime business partner, Eric Schwerin, was also seen in the piece exchanging emails with Blinken’s wife, Evan Ryan, in 2010 and 2011. Ryan has worked at both the State Department and the White House.
The State Department directed The Daily Wire to a recent statement provided to reporters by an agency spokeswoman when asked to comment on Johnson’s interview, saying that other than that, they had nothing to add.
When questioned by a reporter in October 2020 if Blinken had disputed reports that he had played a role in persuading 51 intelligence veterans to sign a statement suggesting the Hunter Biden laptop story may be part of a Russian misinformation effort, Deputy Press Secretary Vedant Patel said that he had not. The article also inquired as to whether or not Blinken intended to respond to the GOP’s letter of May 4.
That’s not something we deal with at the State Department,” Patel added. The State Department is not involved because, as Patel put it, “It is not a State Department issue, and I don’t really have a comment on this from the State Department.”
Ryan, who serves as cabinet secretary in the White House, has answered to Republican inspectors. White House spokesman Ian Sams said Fox News that Republicans in the House are using their authority to re-litigate the 2020 election with false assertions in an effort to harm their political opponents.
In light of Johnson’s years-long investigation into the Biden family and allegations of corruption, Blinken has been invited to testify. But since the Democrats control the Senate, Johnson tried to encourage voluntary cooperation and, if that failed, he hoped the Republican-controlled House would issue subpoenas.
Johnson remarked, “We need to show how bad these people are, so we need to find out what’s going on.”
