On the weekend, Senator John Fetterman, representing Pennsylvania and a member of the Democratic Party, joined President Biden and Governor Josh Shapiro in Philadelphia for an event that aimed to showcase the ongoing repair work being done on Interstate-95.
Welcoming Vice President Joe Biden’s arrival in the state, Senator Fetterman was there at the airport to greet him, dressed in his distinctive attire of a Carhartt hoodie, sports shorts, and sneakers. Later, he stood alongside Attorney General Josh Shapiro during a press conference, where they updated the public on the efforts being made to ensure the safe reopening of a vital transportation route.
It has become somewhat customary for the senator to sport his casual ensemble of a Carhartt hoodie, sports shorts, and sneakers even at formal events. This attire has been seen repeatedly during his 2012 campaign and was also present during a recent Senate news conference.
During the event, Senator Fetterman lauded President Biden’s dedication to improving infrastructure. He recounted a personal experience from over a year ago when he and the president visited a collapsed bridge in Western Pennsylvania. Fetterman praised Biden’s swift response, providing the necessary resources and support, which resulted in the bridge being completed well ahead of schedule.
“Once again, I find myself standing next to the president at a collapsed bridge,” Fetterman emphasized. “He is here to pledge his commitment to working with the governor and the delegation to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. It is clear that this president has a genuine passion for infrastructure, and we have an exceptional legislative proposal to address these infrastructural challenges.”
Following his speech, Fetterman playfully invited Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) to the podium, affectionately referring to him as “Congressman Boyle Bile.”
Clay Travis from Outkick.com took to Twitter to express his thoughts on Fetterman’s address, characterizing the “Biden-Fetterman” pairing as a low point in American democracy, in contrast to the historical significance of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
Fox News Digital reached out to Fetterman’s office for comment on his chosen attire for the Saturday event, but no immediate response was received.
During his time as mayor of Braddock and throughout his Senate campaign, Fetterman became renowned for his preference for casual attire, often wearing sweatsuits to work. Hence, it was somewhat surprising to witness him appearing in the United States Senate chamber in a similar fashion.
After a six-week hospital stay to seek treatment for severe depression, Fetterman has been observed multiple times in the Senate wearing a hoodie and shorts.
Fetterman’s hospitalization began in February, and he did not return to the Senate until April. On his return, he sported a black Carhartt hoodie and blue casual shorts.
Recently, Fox News Digital made claims that Fetterman’s staff had modified transcriptions of his remarks from various sessions due to concerns about his health. These allegations have fueled the ongoing debate surrounding his unconventional attire in the Senate.
