Seven Republican House members have indicated they will vote against McCarthy if the party’s rules aren’t altered.

5 Republican House members have already stated their intention to vote against McCarthy, despite the threat.

Seven more Freedom Caucus members have announced that they will not support Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s bid for Speaker of the House unless specific rule changes are made.

The Freedom Caucus has reportedly warned Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) that he risks losing their support if he doesn’t demonstrate seriousness about negotiating changes to these rules, as reported by Fox News Digital. Late on Thursday, a group of Republican legislators led by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) sent a letter outlining their demands.

Representatives have said, “We must get our act together to ‘check’ the swamp and change the current system” and “We were elected to accomplish what the American people send us to do — specifically to restrain spending and fight to achieve a conservative agenda.”

Representatives Dan Bishop (R-NC), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) all signed on to the paper. Both brand new to Congress, Eli Crane of Arizona and Andy Ogles of Tennessee signed it.

Clyde said to Fox News Digital, “While I continue to consider who I will vote for, these items are simply what I expect and require of anyone seeking the responsibility of serving as Speaker — as accountability of the Speaker to the membership is paramount.” Clyde also said, “Leader McCarthy is a friend, and I’ve established a good working relationship with him over the past two years as the freshman representative to the Elected Leadership Committee.”

Any member should be able to introduce a “motion to leave the chair” and impeach the Speaker of the House, which is one of the most often voiced demands. To protect themselves from McCarthy, the Freedom Caucus planned to utilize this legislative technique to secure a vote on whether or not to keep the Speaker in office.

Legislators saw it as a difficult-to-implement but an essential tool for rebuilding trust and ensuring obligations was fulfilled.

Members of Congress have requested that legislation be thoroughly vetted before being put to the vote, with the bill being made available to the public at least 72 hours in advance so that it may be read and debated and with any necessary amendments being put to the vote. The next Congress is expected to include checks on President Biden’s authority in legislation like the farm bill and the national defense policy act.

Lawmakers said the Farm Bill was essential for preventing further Chinese land acquisitions and streamlining the food assistance program. Let’s pretend the spending bills get signed into law. In that case, we need to end the border insurgency, get back on track to energy independence, and get the IRS to stop using taxpayer dollars to fund a workforce dedicated to harassment.

The Freedom Caucus has been pushing for additional non-legislative representation on key committees. In the House of Representatives, one of these committees is responsible for deciding which amendments and bills will be placed to a vote. To investigate whether President Biden and the Democrats have politicized the use of federal government authority, they want McCarthy to form a special committee.

To avoid “undermining the trust of people they will eventually have to govern and inserting themselves into local races,” legislators wrote, “we must have a clear policy — and that message must be delivered to leadership-affiliated PACs.”

The Freedom Caucus has only seven members, but they’re all committed to stopping Republican-affiliated PACs from funding the party’s primary elections.

They recognize that they will unlikely obtain precisely what they want from politicians but must make some concessions.

Legislators have mandated that these be the groundwork for any discussion of our leadership and that all demands be met before the conference can come together.

In the face of calls for his resignation as the Republican Party’s House speaker candidate, it would be irresponsible for him to remain silent. The California representative has been publicly opposed in his bid for Speaker by five other Republicans.

A message left with McCarthy’s office for comment on the letter went unanswered.

There is a good chance that the Republican Party will have a razor-thin majority in the House when the new session begins on January 3. This could be problematic because a majority of at least 218 votes is needed to elect a speaker, and the opposition could make this challenging to achieve.
