London Breed, mayor of San Francisco, reached out to the federal government in March for assistance with the city’s violence issue. Due to a lack of resources, the community is unable to effectively combat crime.
Mayor London Breed is calling for federal assistance and adopting other drastic measures to address the city’s persistent problems with drugs, violence, and the homeless.
The mayor has been accused by her opponents of wanting to “defund the police,” yet when her city’s police force was understaffed due to the increasing drug issue, she requested the federal government for assistance.
According to a note allegedly written by her attorney Ismail Ramsey in March and released in the San Francisco Chronicle, she begged the United States for assistance because “the scale of the problem is beyond our local capacity.”
Her opponents, who are pro-police, have made a number of claims about how she has altered her position.
One of the many who have spoken out against Mayor London Breed is Lt. Tracy McCray of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, who has said that Mayor Breed “hates” law enforcement and stressed the importance of police in resolving municipal problems.
In the edition of “America’s Newsroom” that aired on Monday, McCray emphasized the importance of high confidence within a police department. Stop being so particular; the cops are the only ones who can handle this, and he said, “You want people here to do this job.”
You place everything on us, she continued, so quit criticizing us and attempting to tear us down.
Mayor Breed spoke extensively about closing San Francisco’s “open-air drug market” in light of the rising fentanyl-related mortality toll.
She pleaded with the Department of Justice to keep working to bring drug traffickers to justice and protect communities, families, and employees.
As for how late it is, McCray said, “I hope it’s not too little, too late.” It’s no secret that we’re short on personnel, but you people get it, and we want to move forward with you.
Before calling in the National Guard because you don’t have a police force, she urged you to seek assistance from the Department of Justice.
According to municipal records, there are 541 fewer police agents than needed in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Police Department was rumored to have employed scores of unqualified or otherwise improperly documented officers, according to state records, in a March report. This action was taken due to a critical lack of law enforcement personnel.
In the last seven years, 45 police officers in the Bay Area were recruited without the necessary documentation. Information collected included fingerprints, evidence of citizenship, scholastic transcripts, and psychiatric and background check reports.
McCray called on municipal officials to take action and explore “other alternatives,” but she cautioned that police cannot be seen as a “cheaper alternative” to sound policymaking.
I get that folks need assistance, but goddamn, how much help does McCray think they need? Do we accommodate all of their needs? Some things in life require effort on your part, so either join in or, you know, withdraw, and I suppose we’ll keep attempting to resolve the issue.
Breed made the pledge during her annual “state of the city” address to combat the city’s drug issue by increasing public safety and legal enforcement.
According to the San Francisco chief medical examiner’s office, 131 individuals in the city perished from drug overdoses in the first two months of this year.
McCray urged people not to visit San Francisco if they had to walk around individuals who were “shooting drugs in their neck, toes, and who knows where else.” “San Francisco is a beautiful city, and I want you to come here. I want everyone to come and visit,” he said.
