An active shooter incident at Fort Stewart, Georgia, left five soldiers wounded after a sergeant allegedly opened fire inside the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The base was immediately placed on lockdown, which was lifted shortly after the suspect was taken into custody.

The gunman, identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, reportedly used a personal handgun to carry out the attack. Despite the lack of access to firearms, nearby soldiers were able to subdue him, preventing further harm.

Three of the injured soldiers underwent surgery, and all five are in stable condition. The rapid response by unarmed soldiers has drawn praise, while also reigniting concerns over firearm policies on military bases.

Federal and military investigators are now leading the probe to determine the motive behind the attack. The incident has prompted new discussions about on-base safety, security protocols, and mental health support for active-duty personnel.
