Following the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate a Colorado law that would have compelled a Christian graphic designer to create a website for a same-sex wedding, actor Michael Imperioli expressed his strong disapproval over the weekend. Imperioli, widely recognized for his role in “The Sopranos,” took to Instagram to share his frustration regarding the landmark ruling.
In the case of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, the Supreme Court invoked the First Amendment in a 6-3 vote, asserting that Lorie Smith could not be obligated under state civil rights law to design websites that conflicted with her deeply held religious beliefs.
Imperioli’s Instagram response included a declaration to prohibit bigots and homophobes from accessing his works, such as “The Sopranos,” “The White Lotus,” and “Goodfellas.” He expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for upholding the right to dissent, yet criticized what he perceives as a growing lack of intelligence in the United States.
Known for his advocacy of the LGBTQ+ community and socialist ideology, Imperioli frequently engages with these topics on various social media platforms. He recently encouraged his followers to embrace Pride, urging them to stay resilient, fearless, and politically active to remove individuals with discriminatory views from positions of power. He has also shown support for the transgender community, sharing messages of empowerment and solidarity in the face of adversity.
