A watchdog group has reported that the Tides Foundation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, has been channeling funds from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations to various organizations that have organized pro-Palestinian rallies. The Tides Foundation, which has received over $22 million for various causes, has allocated significant sums to several liberal groups. These disbursements include $650,000 to Jewish Voice for Peace, $710,000 to the Adalah Justice Project, $86,000 to IfNotNow, $38,000 to the Center for Constitutional Rights, $600,000 to the Mass Liberation Project, and $132,000 to the WESPAC Foundation, which oversees Students for Justice in Palestine.
The Mass Liberation Project’s Arizona chapter, directly affiliated with the Tides Foundation, has been vocal in its support for Hamas, acknowledging it as a “legitimate political actor” and supporting Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Their website has statements that clearly support Palestine’s freedom and reject the idea that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism. They have also stated a firm stance against any form of censorship or influence from funders regarding their solidarity with Palestine.
During a protest organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow inside the U.S. Capitol rotunda on October 19, approximately 300 people were arrested. A protester emphasized the urgency of their cause, equating the current situation to the historical phrase “Never again.”
In response to these developments, a spokesperson for the Open Society Foundations stated that they condemn Hamas and are in favor of a future that upholds the rights and freedoms of all individuals. As of the report, the Tides Foundation had not issued a comment regarding these matters.
