A teacher from Texas, Andrew James McGann, has been arrested at Lupita’s Beauty Salon in Springdale, Arkansas, and charged with capital murder in the fatal slaying of Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink during a hike at Devil’s Den State Park. The couple was ambushed on July 26 while walking with their two young daughters, ages 7 and 9.
Prosecutors say McGann committed a targeted, unprovoked act of violence in front of the children. Witnesses report that Cristen led her daughters to safety before returning to confront the assailant—and both victims succumbed to injuries.
Law enforcement connected McGann to the scene through DNA evidence, blood traces found in his vehicle, and injuries he reportedly sustained on his hands. After a five-day manhunt, authorities located him at the salon, where he was detained during a haircut.
McGann, aged 28 at the time of his arrest, had recently been hired as a teacher in Springdale but had not yet started his classroom role. He has entered a formal plea of not guilty and remains jailed without bond. Trails at Devil’s Den State Park remain closed while investigators continue interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.
