There is a state with pending legislation that gives the state the ability to secede from the United States in case the federal government starts eliminating the bill of rights starting with the Second Amendment.
The bill will be sent to the state Senate on April 10th. Seceding is nothing new to this state as they were the first state to secede at the start of the Civil War. Of course, it’s South Carolina, my current home state. GOP Reps. Mike Pitts, Jonathon Hill and Ashley Trantham introduced the measure.
While other states are considering more gun legislation and limiting gun ownership, but that’s not happening in this state.
Rep Pitts admits that at this time there is little if any chance of his bill becoming law, that could change if the federal government starts seizing guns. The bill was introduced at this time to call attention to the possible unraveling of the Second Amendment.
Would this state secede over the Second Amendment? Well, they could very well try but you have to remember, they would need the approval from the US Congress and that’s unlikely at best.
Until you have a Democrat in the White House, a Democratic supermajority in both Houses of Congress and a ton of Democratic state legislatures, the Second Amendment is safe.

The bill would allow the South Carolina General Assembly to convene “to consider whether to secede from the United States based upon the federal government’s unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution if the federal government confiscates legally purchases firearms in this state.”
According to The Hill, GOP Reps. Mike Pitts, Jonathon Hill, and Ashley Trantham introduced the measure.
The legislation comes amid an intense debate about the Second Amendment and the place of firearms in American society. Although many of the most outspoken voices are calling for increased gun control measures, South Carolina is a state that has always held close to their Second Amendment rights and shows no sign of enacting gun control measures any time soon.
