Former White House press secretary George Stephanopoulos is now a news anchor. Since then, he has consistently taken a left stance on Democratic issues as an anchor for ABC News.
That Stephanopoulos brought up Joe Biden’s declining popularity ratings is telling.
According to Stephanopoulos on Sunday’s “This Week,” “this poll is just awful for Vice President Biden.”
Sixty-three percent of Americans, according to a poll published by ABC News and The Washington Post on Sunday, don’t believe that Biden, at age 80, has the “mental sharpness” to be president. That’s an improvement of nine percentage points over the same poll taken a year earlier.
Only 32% of individuals agree that Biden is mentally well, with 5% unsure.
Biden’s health ratings remained stable. Fewer than two-thirds of the American people believe that Vice President Biden is in “good enough physical health” to serve as president.
Donald Trump fared substantially better than Hillary Clinton in the survey, which was conducted between April 28 and May 3. A majority (54%) of respondents believe that Trump is smarter than Vice President Joe Biden (32%). And 64 percent of voters think he’s fit to lead, while only 33 percent feel the same way about Biden.
Biden’s approval rating is now at an all-time low of 36%, six points lower than in February when the same survey was conducted. Fifty-six percent of Americans are unhappy with Biden’s performance.
Fifty-four percent of respondents to the survey felt that Trump was more business-savvy than Biden. However, just 36% of the population agrees that Biden is performing better.
The research also shows that Trump would defeat Biden in a head-to-head matchup.
Rick Klein, ABC’s political director, reportedly told Stephanopoulos, “You’re seeing real cracks in the coalition that put Joe Biden in the White House in 2020.” It appears that the incumbent vice president, Joe Biden, rather than any of his challengers, will be the focus of this election.
Donna Brazile, a former chair of the Democratic National Committee, agreed that the poll results should cause Democrats concern and appeared on “This Week” to express her concern.
“It kept me up, and I thought they should wake up and look at those numbers,” Brazile added. The break in the coalition that delivered record-breaking support for Joe Biden in 2020 should serve as a wake-up call. That’s something they “should worry about,” she informed them.
The new survey is only the most recent in a long history of inaccurate polls. Gallup found that in the days following Biden declared his re-election campaign, his job approval slipped to 37%. Biden declared his campaign via a video posted on his website rather than at a live event attended by hundreds of adoring followers.
That’s somewhat more than a third of the population, which is concerning. In 2020, Biden received 51.3% of the vote, which is 14.3% lower than his 2016 total.
It’s worth noting that 37% is the lowest percentage Gallup has ever recorded for him. The president’s job approval rating has been hovering in the low 40s for the better part of the last 18 months since the first “honeymoon” phase. However, in July of last year, he hit a record low of 38%.
According to a recent Gallup poll conducted between April 3 and 25, approval ratings have dropped from 43% in March to 40% in April. His polling average for the 9th quarter is 39.7 percent.
The pollsters noted that “only Ronald Reagan in early 1983 had a lower average for the ninth quarter of the presidents who were elected after World War II.” After the recession of 1981–1982, when Reagan was in office, the unemployment rate was above 10%.
