Sports commentator and media personality Stephen A. Smith has revealed he’s seriously weighing a run for president, citing growing encouragement from close advisers and a recent push from his pastor to consider the leap into politics.

Speaking candidly during a recent appearance, Smith said he “has no choice” but to consider the possibility, given the state of national discourse and the lack of strong leadership voices he believes are resonating with everyday Americans.

While no formal campaign has been launched, Smith confirmed that discussions are underway behind the scenes, and that he’s been approached by figures urging him to bring his outspoken platform and unapologetic style to the national stage.

The ESPN star has long been known for his sharp commentary on sports and culture, but has increasingly used his platform to speak out on political and social issues. He made clear that any decision would come after serious reflection and conversations with family and mentors.

For now, Smith says he’s keeping his focus on broadcasting—but isn’t ruling anything out. “When people you trust start telling you it’s time,” he said, “you have to listen.”
