On Wednesday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat representing California, disclosed to the United States House of Representatives that she has received a subpoena demanding the production of documents for a criminal trial in California.
The House Clerk publicly read Pelosi’s statement, a procedure followed when a member of the House is served a subpoena in connection to a legal matter, be it civil or criminal.
“I hereby formally notify you, in accordance with Rule Eight of the House of Representatives’ guidelines, that I, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emerita and Representative for California’s 11th Congressional District, have been issued subpoenas by both the prosecution and defense parties. They have requested the production of documents in an ongoing criminal case at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California,” Pelosi announced in her statement.
She further clarified, “Upon seeking advice from the Office of General Counsel, I have resolved to comply with the subpoenas, given that it aligns with the House’s privileges and responsibilities, and does not require the disclosure of privileged information. My responses to both subpoenas will be identical.”
While Pelosi’s office chose not to provide comments on this active legal matter, a source with knowledge of the situation revealed to Fox News Digital that the subpoena is connected to the upcoming trial of the individual accused of violently breaking into Paul Pelosi’s residence last year.
David DePape, the alleged perpetrator of the assault on Mr. Pelosi, is scheduled to stand trial this month.
