Police have confirmed that the individual believed responsible for the deadly Brown University shooting has been identified as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente and was found dead, law enforcement officials said.
Valente was named as the suspect in the attack that left multiple victims killed and others injured near the campus. Following a multi-day search, officers located his body, bringing an end to the extensive manhunt.
Authorities have not disclosed the exact circumstances of his death but said there was no ongoing threat to the public after Valente was found. Investigators continue to review evidence from the shooting scene and Valente’s movements in the days leading up to the incident.
The shooting prompted a large emergency response, including lockdowns and coordination among local, state, and federal agencies to secure the area and protect residents. Emergency responders also treated and transported wounded individuals to nearby hospitals.
Officials said that the investigation remains active as detectives work to confirm details about motive and sequence of events. The community has been urged to remain vigilant as police complete their inquiry, with additional updates expected as more information becomes available.
