The accused gunman in the killing of political commentator Charlie Kirk appeared remotely for a hearing in a Utah courtroom, refraining from physically entering the courtroom or showing his face on video.
Legal filings indicate the 22-year-old defendant is charged with several felonies, including aggravated murder and the discharge of a firearm. Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty.
During the hearing, which lasted under ten minutes, a judge granted the defense additional time to review discovery evidence before scheduling an in-person appearance. A follow-up hearing has been moved to January 16, 2026.
The move has intensified national scrutiny, as authorities continue to investigate how the suspect allegedly carried out the rooftop sniper attack that killed Kirk on September 10 during a speaking event at a Utah university.
