A shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, during a high school hockey game on February 16 resulted in multiple fatalities and several critical injuries, according to authorities.
Police identified the suspect as 56 year old Robert Dorgan, who also went by the name Roberta Esposito. Officials said the suspect died at the scene from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound after opening fire inside the rink. Law enforcement described the violence as a targeted attack connected to an ongoing family dispute.
Two adults were killed in the incident. At least three other individuals, including relatives of the suspect, were transported to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
Public records and prior legal filings indicate that the suspect had a history of family conflict, including disputes related to gender identity and personal matters. Authorities noted that these long standing tensions were part of the background being reviewed in the investigation.
The shooting occurred during a boys high school hockey event attended by families and community members, causing panic as spectators fled and emergency responders secured the building.
Local and federal law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. Officials stated there is no ongoing threat to the public and have encouraged those affected to seek counseling and community support services in the aftermath of the tragedy.
