Former NFL linebacker and Democratic lawmaker Colin Allred will challenge Ted Cruz, a staunch conservative, for Texas’s Senate seat in 2024.
Our senator, we’ve been persuaded, is not a disgrace to our country. Former NFL player and Democratic challenger to Republican senator Ted Cruz Colin Allred declared, “We can get a new one.”
The first prominent Democratic challenger to Cruz for the Senate seat is Colin Allred, a former NFL linebacker and Obama administration staffer. In 2018, Allred won an election after defeating Republican incumbent Pete Sessions. Some of northern Dallas is included in Allred’s Congressional District 32. Cruz is running for a third consecutive six-year term in the Texas House of Representatives.
The video in which Allred declared his candidacy went viral almost immediately. It was shown that on January 6, 2021, Trump supporters and other right-wing activists will storm the U.S. Capitol to prevent President Biden’s 2020 victory from being ratified by Congress.
The sound of glass breaking and the increasing decibel level of the shouts are still with me. After a particularly trying day, I texted my wife, “I love you no matter what.” Allred can be heard stating on camera, “I took off my coat and got ready to attack anyone who walked through that door.”
When Senator Cruz was attacked by Allred, Allred said, “He cheered on the mob, and when they stormed the Capitol, he hid in a supply cabinet.” When Allred said, “vote against ratification,” he was referring to Cruz’s refusal to recognize the election’s outcomes. According to the late great Allred, “that’s Ted for you: all hat, no cattle.”
Allred said that in 2021, “Texans were freezing in the dark” because of power outages brought on by harsh winter storms, while Cruz took his family on a trip to Cancun, Mexico. When questioned about his upbringing, he described himself as a “working-class kid raised by a single mom.” Further, they claimed that Cruz doesn’t understand “the struggles of regular Texans.”
A swift response was given by Cruz’s 2024 reelection campaign.
The newest senatorial candidacy for the Democrats is yet another radical progressive. Colin Allred, a Republican from Texas, often sides with Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in the House, despite the views of his people. Allred is a pacifist who supports the right to bear arms and who does not take the border situation seriously. He also advocates for male participation in sports that have historically been dominated by females. Nick Maddux, who oversaw the Allred campaign, said in a statement that his client was ultimately too leftist for Texas.
Allred is a member of the Democratic leadership in the House and has collected a significant political war fund. At the start of the year, his campaign had around $2 million in funding. In 2024, when Cruz’s Senate seat comes up for election, an opponent will require a sizable campaign fund to stand a chance. To kick off his presidency, Cruz had around $3.3 million in the bank.
Ted Cruz’s reelection run in 2018 was difficult because of his poor showing in 2016. He finished second in the Republican nomination race to Donald Trump. The chances of Cruz losing Texas are almost nil, what with Trump’s tight victory there in 2020 and the overwhelming victory by Republican Governor Greg Abbott over Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke last year.
Allred said in a campaign commercial, “Some people say a Democrat can’t win in Texas.” No one ever intended for me to achieve success. I’ve faced much more formidable opponents than Ted Cruz. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Philip Letsou said, “Just like Beto O’Rourke before him, Colin Allred is going to quickly regret giving up his safe House seat to run yet another doomed, Democrat vanity campaign in Texas.”
It’s possible that Allred won’t be the only Democrat to run for Texas’s lone Senate seat. Uvalde’s newly elected state senator, Roland Gutierrez, is considering a second bid for office. Former Houston mayor Sylvester Turner is also a candidate.
Pennsylvania’s Republican-held Senate seat was flipped to the Democratic Party in the 2018 midterm elections. With the arrival of these three independent senators, the Democrats now hold a 51-49 majority in the senate.
If Democrats win the White House in 2020, Republicans will need to pick up at least one House seat to maintain their control. The people and the land will ensure the GOP’s victory in 2024. The number of Democratic candidates for the 34 open seats is high. Trump’s chances of taking three of these seats are quite low.
