Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old student who has been accused with murder in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, a fellow student, at a Texas high school track meet, is currently residing with his family in a gated community after posting bond.
Anthony was originally jailed on a $1 million bond; however, the amount was later reduced to $250,000 by a judge, which permitted him to be released under stringent conditions. He is currently under house arrest, obligated to wear an ankle monitor, and must remain at home unless he is granted court approval to depart.
After Anthony’s release, his family relocated to a rental property that was reportedly valued at approximately $900,000. The monthly rent was approximately $3,500. A new vehicle was also acquired by the family following his return, according to reports.
Witnesses report that an argument ensued at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on April 2, following Metcalf’s request for Anthony to vacate a team tent. The confrontation intensified, culminating in Metcalf’s chest stabbing. Anthony allegedly acknowledged the act and questioned whether it could be classified as self-defense.
Fundraisers have been organized to cover legal and memorial expenses for both families, which have garnered public attention. Anthony’s supporters have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, and Metcalf’s family has also received substantial financial support.
The case continues to be active as legal proceedings progress, generating national awareness and provoking discussions regarding the legal standards of self-defense and juvenile violence.
