A Tesla Cybertruck owner is gaining attention online after releasing footage of a vandal targeting his vehicle, leading to swift identification and public backlash against the suspect.
The incident occurred in a public parking lot where the truck was legally parked. Security video captured a man approaching the Cybertruck and deliberately scraping its exterior using an unknown object, causing visible damage to the driver’s side panel. The suspect then walked away calmly without attempting to conceal his actions.
Unbeknownst to the vandal, the vehicle’s owner had installed multiple high-definition cameras on the truck, part of Tesla’s built-in surveillance system. The footage, which was later shared by the owner on social media, showed clear views of the suspect’s face and actions, quickly drawing public interest and assistance in identifying the individual.
Shortly after the video went viral, the Cybertruck owner filed a police report and submitted the evidence to local authorities. Investigators are currently pursuing charges related to vandalism and property damage.
The owner stated that the act appeared to be unprovoked and had no apparent connection to any previous altercations. He also expressed gratitude for the support he received online and encouraged other Tesla owners to activate and use built-in security tools, particularly in public areas.
The suspect has not yet been named by police, but law enforcement confirmed the individual is being sought for questioning. The incident has renewed conversations around vehicle-targeted vandalism, especially toward high-profile or polarizing models like the Cybertruck.
As the investigation progresses, the case serves as a reminder of the growing role that consumer-installed surveillance technology plays in deterring and documenting criminal behavior.
