Soros “backs” Travis County District Attorney José Garza, according to Texas AG Ken Paxton. After a local jury found Army Sergeant Daniel Perry guilty of murder in the 2020 July shooting death of an armed Black Lives Matter demonstrator, a crowd stormed the district attorney’s office. Sgt. Perry claims self-defense is his constitutionally protected right.
“Self-defense is a God-given right, not a crime,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton told Fox News on Saturday morning. The Travis County district attorney, who is funded by George Soros, is more concerned with the radical aim of violent Antifa and BLM mobs than with justice.
The actions of “rogue prosecutors” this week, according to Attorney General Paxton, demonstrate that the judicial system has been “weaponized.” Stop doing it!
He made the remarks after a Travis County jury on Friday convicted Sgt. Perry responsible for the death of Garret Foster. When protestors blocked Perry’s automobile as he tried to drive through the crowd, Perry claimed that Foster brandished an AK-47 at him.
Breitbart News’ Simon Kent said that a gunshot was heard during the July 25, 2020, Black Lives Matter rally in Austin. Facebook users watched the murder unfold, but no context was provided.
A few days later, Breitbart’s Amy Furr reported that Perry’s lawyer had identified him as the gunman and that Perry had initially claimed self-defense. Perry got into his car and left after what had transpired. He stopped a short distance away and reported the incident to the authorities.
There have been rumors that Perry was riding in an Uber when he was encircled by demonstrators. Foster allegedly pointed the AK-47 at Perry while he was being attacked by demonstrators who were beating on Perry’s car with their bare hands. Perry’s attorney claimed that during their vehicle ride together, Perry fatally shot Foster.
KVUE reported the following the day after the shooting:
Foster apparently approached Perry’s vehicle and motioned for him to roll down his window. Perry first stated that he had thought Foster was a law enforcement official.
Because of his assault weapon, Sergeant Perry mistook him for a police officer. “Even though we’re in Texas, you don’t usually see people with assault weapons in the middle of the street,” Broden told KVUE late on a Friday.
According to Perry, Foster aimed a firearm at him, prompting him to fire.
People will not stand about waiting for an assault rifle to spin a complete ninety degrees before fleeing in the other direction. If they can defend themselves, they will, attorney Clint Broden said.
Reporters were told by Austin Police Chief Brian Manley that Sgt. Perry had been detained, questioned, and then released “pending further investigation.”
When Garrett Foster leveled his AK-47 at Daniel Perry, his attorney Doug O’Connell subsequently told Fox News, “Daniel had two-tenths of a second to defend himself.” The guy chose to stay alive on purpose.
Fox News’ Tucker Carlson defended Perry’s lethal force use on Foster as justified self-defense and begged for forgiveness from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
On Monday, attorneys will meet with Judge Clifford Brown (D) of Texas’s 147th District Court to discuss a possible sentencing hearing date.
