A Texas-based couple has been arrested on felony child-neglect charges after authorities say they left their 6-month-old daughter unattended under a beach tent while they walked the shoreline with their three older children. The incident unfolded at Miramar Beach, Florida, where witnesses alerted security upon noticing the baby alone for nearly an hour.
Deputies report the parents admitted to placing the infant down for a nap and departing with the older siblings, claiming they “lost track of time.” When checked by first responders, the baby was unharmed and not in distress, though the family’s other children were temporarily placed in protective custody.
Both parents were released on $1,000 bond; the case has ignited debate over where to draw the line between momentary mistake and endangering a child.
