In a recent development, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick expressed strong confidence in the legal fortitude of Texas’ new legislation, empowering law enforcement to detain individuals suspected of illegal entry into the state. He believes these laws will be upheld in court, potentially reaching the U.S. Supreme Court for final judgment.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has initiated a bold move, transporting undocumented immigrants to Chicago. This decision comes as a direct response to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s policy of seizing buses carrying migrants. Lt. Gov. Patrick criticized the Biden administration for its lack of action and accused presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre of misrepresenting Texas’ immigration policy, labeling it as “extreme” and “dehumanizing.”
Patrick, in his interview with Fox News, expressed frustration over the misinformation he perceives from the White House. He highlighted the dire consequences of the administration’s border policies, including increased fentanyl-related deaths, terrorist infiltrations, and the exploitation of women and children crossing the border.
Asserting that the Biden administration is facilitating an “invasion,” Patrick emphasized Texas’ adherence to the Constitution, particularly referencing Article I Section X. This section, he argues, provides the state with legal grounds to act in the face of immediate threats or invasions.
Patrick highlighted the staggering number of illegal crossings in 2023, likening it to the population of a large state or New York City, to underscore the magnitude of the crisis.
In an interesting twist, Patrick praised Governor Abbott’s strategy to exert pressure on sanctuary cities like Chicago, pointing out the hypocrisy of such cities when faced with the reality of accommodating a large number of immigrants. He even suggested extending this approach to Delaware, President Biden’s home state, to amplify the impact on regions that have traditionally been less affected by border issues.
This stance reflects a growing trend among Republican governors to challenge sanctuary city policies and redistribute the responsibility of handling the influx of immigrants. Delaware, in anticipation of such moves, has reportedly prepared to handle potential arrivals in an organized manner, as stated by a spokeswoman for Delaware Governor John Carney. Former Pennsylvania state Senator Mario Scavello also previously proposed relocating migrants to Delaware, demonstrating a coordinated effort to address immigration challenges at a national level.
