When becoming Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy could only afford to lose four votes.
His fellow Freedom Caucus members nominated Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) on Wednesday to become the next House Speaker. FOX WAS THE ORIGINAL SOURCE FOR THIS INFORMATION.
Two sources told Fox News Digital that the House Freedom Caucus would back Donalds in Wednesday’s vote against Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.
McCarthy needed additional support on the fourth and final vote, which took place on Wednesday.
Twenty Republicans, including Donalds, voted for Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan over the caucus leader on Tuesday.
Texas Republican Chip Roy nominated Donalds on Wednesday, saying he would “stand up” to the Washington “swamp” in his speech to the House.
For Roy, the most crucial point was, “When asked about the company’s stance on racism, the representative said, “We do not want to condemn people based on the color of their skin.”
Despite being raised by a single mother, Byron Donalds is an upstanding individual who has overcome discrimination, accepted Christianity at the age of 21, and dedicated his life to helping his family and country. I think he did a fantastic job.”
According to him, Byron’s nomination is important because the country “needs a change.” There must be a change in direction for the leadership of this country, away from “this city, this town that is devastated.”
Roy said that the House of Representatives is the proper venue for a “conversation” about providing financial aid to Ukraine because “the House of Representatives is the People’s House” and “represents the fullness of our country.”
McCarthy needed more votes in his fourth try to become speaker since the House Freedom Caucus had shifted their support from Jordan to Donalds.
The Republican leader can afford to lose no more than four members in his effort to become a speaker.
