The Republicans in the House have warned groups assisting migrants at the southern border to save all of their records in the case of an inquiry.

The United States has seen a record number of migrants enter the country since early 2021.

The three nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) helping migrants at the southern border of the United States have been asked by a group of House Republicans led by Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, to keep records and communications related to their operations as part of an investigation into the flow of illegal immigrants into the interior of the United States.

They were concerned about “the expanding role [NGOs play in driving the terrible rise of illegal aliens crossing the southern border,” Republican members, including Gooden, wrote to Catholic Charities USA, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, and Jewish Family Service of San Diego.

They claim that “the Biden administration is circumventing the security and safety regulations government agencies must respect” by allowing NGOs to harbor, transport, and promote undocumented immigrants to migrate to the U.S.

“violating federal law and regulation, placing migrants and American communities at risk, and subjecting local populations to unreasonable demands,” they claim the NGOs.

The role of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in providing aid to migrants who have crossed the southern border is not new. Still, it has received more attention in the aftermath of an extraordinary rise at the southern border, which saw over 2.3 million migrant encounters in FY2022.

There is concern that this number will rise even higher after the end of Title 42 in the coming days when many of the detainees will be released into the care of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), which provide them with supplies and often help the migrants on their journey to their final destinations.

Given the possibility of up to 14,000 migrant crossings per day should Title 42 be abolished, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas indicated this week that more muscular coordination with NGOs is vital.

“We’re mindful of the reality that Title 42 will expire early next week,” Mayorkas told The El Paso Times.

We are also aware of the need for cooperation with other entities, including the organizations with which we share a strong working relationship, border towns like El Paso, and international allies. We are moving as quickly as we can as a result.

On the contrary, Republican lawmakers are against any use of public funds by NGOs to facilitate the entry of illegal immigrants into the interior of the United States.

The letters emphasize that “no group” should get government assistance if it aids in the illegal immigration process. When NGOs bring illegal aliens into the heart of the country, it becomes hard for federal immigration enforcement authorities to trace them and keep our communities secure.

The Republican-controlled House has pledged to investigate the Biden administration’s border policy from every possible angle once they take power in January. On Wednesday, lawmakers called for an inquiry into NGOs’ role in the crisis.

The new Congress will “continue to probe your organization’s complicity in supporting the border crisis, your probable violations of federal law, and your abuse of public money,” they say.

The federal government has requested that all records about their reimbursement requests be preserved.

When asked by Fox News Digital, Gooden said, “It’s time for probes into the corrupt network of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) aiding and abetting illegal migration and human smuggling.” As “House Republicans pledge to hit at the ground running next Congress,” this organization’s ability to operate and maintain its tax-exempt status has been put on notice.

A statement posted on the website of Catholic Charities USA, the domestic humanitarian arm of the U.S. Catholic Church, in response to claims that it broke federal law and led to an uptick in migration across the border.

False accusations. They said their “lifesaving humanitarian operations” did not endanger anyone or infringe on any laws in the area. Border control and immigration policy are exclusively the purviews of the federal government.

The organization claims that the United States government does not give necessities like food and clothing to migrants until after they have been released from federal custody. The group warned that without this help, the migrants would have no choice but to live on the streets.

Okay, so let’s get things straight. According to the report’s findings, Catholic Charities and the many other groups and individuals trying to alleviate this national catastrophe are constrained by a broken system. We urge the White House and Congress to address this issue and do everything we can to make that happen.

New information claimed that NGOs had helped transport illegal immigrants to 431 of the total 435 congressional districts. The letters arrived just one day after Gooden spoke at a Heritage Foundation event where the claims were made.

As Heritage Foundation Oversight Project Director Mike Howell put it, “the Biden administration works hand in hand with NGOs in a mass resettlement campaign.”

The whole United States is affected, he said.

However, on Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott requested the state’s attorney general’s office to “investigate the role nongovernmental organizations may have had in coordinating & facilitating unauthorized crossings into Texas.”
