Co-host Joy Behar was perplexed on Thursday’s episode of ABC’s The View that Gov. Chris Sununu (R) will not prohibit the AR-15, which she called an “automatic rifle” used in high-profile massacres.
Whoopi Goldberg brought up gun regulation, wondering why Republicans won’t prohibit AR-15s, and the hosts discussed the issue.
“Why are you holding on to this one gun?” she demanded.
Behar continued right away, “The AR-15. The automatic weapon that shoots and murders a group of kids on their way to school That weapon.
Sununu replied that a prohibition on one type of firearm will not prevent attacks.
According to him, “If it was that easy, the Democrats would have done it.”
Sununu further claimed in the interview, “The Democrats had the House, the Senate, and the Presidency for two years, and they did nothing [regarding a ban on the AR-15].”
Star Jones, the show’s host, rebutted Sununu by suggesting the Democrats “made a mistake” by not passing gun control legislation during that time period.
While appearing on Morning Joe on MSNBC on May 19, 2023, Democratic New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham called an AR-15 rifle an “automatic weapon.”
After conducting research, Breitbart News concluded that Grisham’s statement was untrue. The AR-15 is a semiautomatic weapon, meaning that each stroke of the trigger launches a single projectile.
Falsely claiming that AR-15s are “automatic” is just Behar being dishonest.
