A routine warrant service in York County, Pennsylvania turned deadly when gunfire erupted in North Codorus Township, leaving three officers dead and two others critically wounded. The suspect was also killed during the exchange.
The shooting occurred around 2:10 p.m. on Haar Road, where officers were carrying out a search warrant linked to a domestic incident reported the previous day. Neighbors said they heard a barrage of gunfire, with one witness estimating as many as 30 shots.
Emergency crews rushed the two surviving officers to WellSpan York Hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition. Their names have not been released pending family notifications.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called the tragedy “a devastating day” for the state, paying tribute to the bravery of the officers who “ran toward danger in service of their community.” He pledged full support for the families of the fallen and injured, as well as resources for the ongoing investigation.
State police, along with the York County District Attorney’s Office, are leading the inquiry into the ambush. The identity of the suspect has not yet been made public.
The incident has left the community reeling, with residents gathering to honor the officers’ sacrifice and officials warning of the dangers law enforcement faces in even routine operations. Vigils are expected in the coming days as York County mourns the loss of its officers.
