Chris Sununu, the Republican governor of New Hampshire, claimed on FNC’s “Your World” on November 8 that Trump’s lack of popularity and the politicians he sponsored were responsible for the lack of a red wave.
According to Sununu, “There was obviously no crimson wave.” President Biden’s words are unpredictable to everyone, including himself, so I won’t try to guess what he’ll say next. The American people, however, have spoken up and made it clear that they do not view the Republicans who sought election to Washington as the short-term solution to inflation. The United States made it abundantly clear that, while policy reform is necessary, it will take a back seat to counter extremism. That’s what I got out of it. Not that Republicans won, but the most radical Republicans were largely defeated at the polls.
In his opinion, the former president did not help many candidates; he continued. He isn’t alone in this. Others may have been present as well. No one benefited from Senator Lindsey Graham’s pro-abortion rhetoric and called for a nationwide ban only weeks before Election Day. The frightening rhetoric coming out of Washington on the subject of Social Security and Medicare helped no one. A message emanating from Washington, DC, reportedly discussed eliminating Pelosi and exacting revenge. People don’t want to see it right now. People who can actually do things are highly desired. The quality of the candidate, the quality of the individual who needs to connect with the voter, really does matter to people in the end, so the messaging wasn’t where it needed to be.
Not only did he have trouble winning, but so did the major candidates he supported, as Sununu pointed out. More than just Trump’s image as a scary brand needed to be dispelled. The thought shocks me. I had assumed inflation was the primary concern and that people would look to them to provide a solution. It’s crucial, but they didn’t have faith that those people could fix it, and the extremism they saw made them terrified. Truthfully, I was taken aback by the information. I was caught off guard by the outcome. To my mind, a red wave was imminent. This red wave looked more like a ripple. We expected more from it, and it fell short.
