Leftists are jumping ship like it’s their fault. Their socialist views may be driving away supporters of the Democratic Party.
Councilman Ari Kagan of New York City, a Democrat, announced earlier this week that he is joining the Republican Party.
The New York Post reports that Kagan stated the Left had gone too far to the Left and that this was to blame for the Democrats’ lenient stances on crime.
Kagan announced the news in a press conference, stating, “the Democratic Party in New York was shifting to [the] left at such a speed I couldn’t keep up.”
He also tweeted that “it’s not me quitting the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party very fast started to abandon me” when he complained that criminals in New York City had more advantages than law-abiding people.
According to Kagan, the Democratic Party is intentionally trying to make New Yorkers feel less safe, and he no longer agrees with their narrative on crime and education.
The city’s crime rate is 5.9 percent higher than last October 2021.
The number of persons arrested by the NYPD in that month was over 4,000, a gain of 16.5% year over year.
This year, significant crimes like murder, rape, and robbery were reported by the New York Police Department at a rate of 102,741, up from 95,593 in the 2020 pandemic year.
While Governor Kathy Hochul has assured New Yorkers that her office is trying to find a solution, residents of the state have yet to see any progress.
