Reportedly, conventional media outlets disregarded a number of consequential 2023 stories concerning purported corruption involving President Joe Biden and his family. Based on available reports, these stories, which had the potential to yield significant consequences, did not receive the level of attention they merited.
Reports surfaced in September that two bank wires totaling $260,000 were wired to Joe Biden’s address from Chinese business associates affiliated with the Biden family in 2019. The funds were paid in Chinese currency. On the contrary, major cable morning news networks (NBC News, ABC News, and CBS News) refrained from providing extensive coverage of this revelation.
The DOJ’s “Preferential Treatment” of Hunter Biden: In June, allegations emerged that the Justice Department (DOJ) granted preferential treatment to Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, in relation to investigations concerning tax violations. Indeed, evening programming on CBS Evening News and ABC’s “World News Tonight” reportedly disregarded these allegations despite their gravity.
The home pages of prominent establishment media networks (e.g., The Washington Post, The New York Times, Politico, CNN, and MSNBC) reportedly avoided covering IRS whistleblower allegations of political interference by the DOJ on behalf of the Biden family, which were made public in June.
Amid controversies surrounding President Biden’s European apparel, media organizations were accused in July of neglecting allegations that he had accepted a bribe amounting to $5 million. Biden’s fashion selections throughout his European tour were extensively documented in a Politico Playbook newsletter, which prominently featured this matter while neglecting to mention the bribery allegations.
In September, official statements from the White House, Democratic Party members, and affiliated media organizations alleged that “no evidence” existed to substantiate the demand for an investigation into Biden’s impeachment. Evidence discovered by House Republicans and already in the public domain purportedly contradicted this position.
The aforementioned examples indicate a potential trend of biased journalism on the part of certain news organizations, which could have an impact on the public’s comprehension and perception of substantive political matters. Concerns regarding the function of journalism in holding public figures accountable and media bias are prompted by the lack of coverage of these stories.
