Wisconsin Representative Derrick Van Orden shared heartbreaking news on Tuesday as he announced the passing of his daughter, Sydney Marie Martenis. The congressman’s press office released a statement revealing that Sydney had succumbed to cancer after a courageous battle that lasted for over a year.

In the official statement, Rep. Van Orden and his wife, Sara Jane, expressed a mix of profound grief and gratitude. They conveyed that their daughter had been battling an aggressive form of cancer and had passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. The couple emphasized the pain of losing Sydney’s radiant smile and infectious laughter while acknowledging the comfort of knowing she is now resting in the embrace of the divine.

Sydney’s passing was shared through various channels, including the congressman’s official website and social media handled by his press office. The statement extended gratitude for the support shown to their family during this difficult time and concluded with a prayerful request for blessings upon those who had shown kindness.

Sydney Marie Martenis is survived by her husband Chris, her daughter Madelyn, sons Charlie and Roman, her parents Derrick and Sara Jane, her sister Abigail, her brothers Theodore and Daniel, and a wide network of extended family members.

Chris Martenis, Sydney’s husband, took to social media to share a touching tribute to his late wife. He described her as a remarkable partner, an exceptional mother, and an embodiment of hard work, thoughtfulness, and compassion. He acknowledged her role in shaping him into a better person through her example of friendship, parenting, and love within their marriage. Chris lamented the void left by her absence in the world.

Fellow lawmakers and officials reached out to offer their condolences and support to Rep. Van Orden and his family during this trying time. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy expressed his sympathy, stating that no parent should have to endure such heartbreak. Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin conveyed her deep sorrow and offered her thoughts to the family as they grieve this tremendous loss.

The passing of Sydney Marie Martenis has touched the hearts of many, reminding us all of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing the time we have with our loved ones.
