A Wisconsin couple was found dead in their car in Harvard, Illinois, on October 6, skipping a celebration just days before their first wedding anniversary. The occurrence was subsequently ruled to be a murder-suicide by the authorities.
On Route 14, a car with danger lights on was discovered carrying the victims, Rachel Noel Dumovich, 29, and her husband, Brandon Peter Dumovich, 30. There was a firearm at the site, and both had been shot once in the head. Brandon was found to have shot Rachel before killing himself by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
According to special investigators, the event seems to be a singular occurrence that poses no wider risk to the public. The pair was characterized by friends and family as lifelong friends; they allegedly started dating in 2022, had known one another since middle school, and exchanged vows in October 2024. Travel, the great outdoors, and their two dogs were the main interests of the Harms. While Brandon was a Navy veteran who loved technology and the outdoors, Rachel was employed in human resources.
Though toxicological and other forensic evidence are still being examined, the ruling was informed by the preliminary findings. The tragedy has prompted the wider community to offer resources and help hotlines.
