The ‘Army of God,’ a massive truck convoy, is gathering toward the southern border of the United States in a noteworthy display. This march coincides with growing anxiety over the continuing border crisis, which resulted in a record-breaking 302,000 migrants entering the country illegally.
The convoy, which may number in the hundreds or possibly thousands, is making its way through three states to three major hubs for migration: Eagle Pass, Texas; Yuma, Arizona; and San Ysidro, California. ‘Take Back Our Border,’ as the event is called, will begin on January 29 and run for four days. The aim of this protest is to bring national attention to the increasing quantity of migrants entering the country through the southern border and the burden that these migrants are placing on different American cities.
This protest is a direct reaction to what many see to be the incompetent management of the border problem by the Biden administration. President Joe Biden had earlier asked Congress for emergency financing in an attempt to handle the crisis, asking for more border agents, police, and deportation flights. He made plans to close the border last week in the event that this financing bill was approved.
Congressman Keith Self, a Republican from Texas, applauded the truckers’ efforts and said that their action shows how important it is to secure the country’s borders and stands up for the American people.
Freedom Train International, a group billed as a worldwide movement devoted to freedom and resistance, is leading the convoy. This incident is the most recent chapter in a contentious political discussion about Texas’s right to overrule the federal government. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been an outspoken opponent of the Biden Administration, claiming it is not doing enough to control the influx of undocumented immigrants into Texas.
Texas is stepping up its efforts despite a recent Supreme Court decision supporting the Biden Administration’s border security policies. Since regaining control of Eagle Pass Park earlier in January, the state has expanded wire fence. Some places are off-limits to federal Border Patrol personnel, even if a nearby golf course is still open.
Texas has had a lot of political support on this topic; Governor Abbott is backed by 25 governors from Republican states. The trucker convoy is among the sectors that are becoming more involved as a result of the severe point that the border situation has reached.
With a record 2.48 million interceptions along the southern border in 2022–2023, the border problem is only becoming worse. The impending convoy demonstration is a reflection of the growing public mood calling for more efficient border management and stricter enforcement of current laws. This belief is reflected in the ‘Army of God’ truck convoy, which aims to raise awareness of the problem and put pressure on the Biden administration to take quick action.
