The Trump administration and Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, have struck a new agreement to deploy advanced systems—like Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast—across federal agencies. The General Services Administration (GSA) will oversee access, with each participating department able to use the tools for a nominal fee.
According to statements from Musk and administration officials, the collaboration is intended to modernize agency workflows, accelerate decision-making, and strengthen U.S. competitiveness in the technology sector. The deal signals a renewed working relationship after months of public tension between Trump and Musk.
While the reconciliation is notable, insiders say the partnership is strictly functional. Musk expressed gratitude that his AI models are now “unlocked” for government use, and pledged support for rapid deployment and training across departments. The agreement extends through March 2027 under the GSA’s terms.
Observers note the move could reshape how AI is integrated into federal operations, raising both opportunities and scrutiny over issues like security, oversight, and the role of private tech firms in governance.
