During an exclusive town hall hosted by Fox News’ Sean Hannity, former President Trump expressed strong criticism towards the Justice Department, accusing it of being a tool for the Democrats and interfering with the election. Trump’s reaction came after receiving a letter from Special Counsel Jack Smith, notifying him that he is the target of the investigation into the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Trump revealed that such a letter typically precedes an arrest and indictment.
Trump further pointed out that he is not the only one under investigation, as President Biden is also facing a special counsel investigation related to the alleged improper retention of classified records. Trump argued that while he is protected by the Presidential Records Act, Biden’s documents from his time as vice president and in the U.S. Senate are not covered by the same protection.
The former president criticized Smith, calling him a “deranged prosecutor” and condemning the alleged weaponization of the Department of Justice. Trump also mentioned the FBI’s original investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation found no evidence of collusion, and Special Counsel John Durham later found that the FBI’s initial investigation should not have been initiated.
Trump defended his decision to fire then-FBI Director James Comey in May 2017, claiming that it exposed corruption within the FBI. He referred to the situation as a “coup” against his presidency, saying that he “got rid of a lot of” dishonest individuals during his tenure and intends to do the same in the future.
Regarding other investigations, Trump expressed disappointment over the Secret Service closing its investigation into the discovery of cocaine in the White House, stating that he believes they know who it belonged to. He also criticized President Biden’s overseas business dealings, alleging that he is “compromised” due to millions of dollars received illegally from China.
In contrast, Trump questioned why Biden has not faced impeachment for these alleged financial dealings, despite himself being impeached twice by the House of Representatives but acquitted both times by the Senate. The former president concluded by asserting that the United States was more respected under his leadership and claimed that foreign leaders like Putin and Xi treated the country with greater caution during his tenure.
