Trump DOJ Clashes with Major County Over Concealed Carry Rights

The Trump administration’s Department of Justice is entering a legal battle with a Democrat-led county over restrictions on concealed carry permits, arguing that local policies unlawfully infringe on citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

The dispute centers on a major metropolitan area where officials have imposed strict requirements for firearm licenses, citing rising urban crime. Federal officials contend these rules disproportionately burden law-abiding gun owners while doing little to deter criminal activity.

The DOJ’s filing emphasizes that recent Supreme Court rulings have strengthened the constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense. County leaders, however, maintain that their approach balances safety with constitutional limits, especially in densely populated regions.

The confrontation marks another high-profile test between the Trump administration and progressive jurisdictions as the White House continues to push for broader national protections on gun ownership.
