Trump Expresses Strong Interest in Taking Control of Greenland and Panama Canal

Sources close to former President Donald Trump have revealed that he remains serious about his interest in acquiring Greenland and potentially regaining U.S. control of the Panama Canal. The reported ambitions, which echo past statements from Trump, have reignited debates about the practicality and implications of such moves.

Trump, known for his unconventional approaches to international relations, has reportedly revisited the idea of purchasing Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark. The former president previously suggested that acquiring Greenland would be a strategic asset for the United States, citing its vast natural resources and geopolitical significance.

The renewed interest in Greenland coincides with recent remarks from Trump about the Panama Canal, where he floated the idea of reasserting American control over the key trade route. The canal was handed over to Panama in 1999 under the terms of a 1977 treaty and has since been managed by the Panamanian government.

Critics have dismissed the proposals as unrealistic, arguing that such ambitions would face significant legal, diplomatic, and logistical hurdles. Danish officials have previously rejected the notion of selling Greenland, emphasizing the territory’s autonomy and importance to Denmark’s sovereignty.

Similarly, Panamanian leaders have strongly opposed any suggestion of U.S. control over the canal, reaffirming the country’s independence and effective management of the waterway. President José Raúl Mulino recently stated that the canal remains a vital symbol of national pride and sovereignty.

Supporters of Trump’s ideas, however, argue that these proposals reflect bold, long-term thinking about U.S. strategic interests. They believe that both Greenland and the Panama Canal could bolster America’s economic and security positioning on the global stage.

As speculation continues, the proposals highlight Trump’s ability to stir debate over unconventional geopolitical strategies, underscoring his influence in shaping political discourse even outside of office.
