President Donald Trump said the United States will not proceed with a second round of military action against Venezuela, citing cooperation from the country’s leadership as the reason for the decision.
The president said Venezuela had taken steps that showed a willingness to work with the United States, including the release of political prisoners and engagement on other key issues, which made further military action unnecessary for now.
Trump added that while no additional attacks are planned, U.S. naval forces will continue operating in the region to maintain security and stability. He also noted that discussions are underway involving the rebuilding of Venezuela’s oil and gas infrastructure, with American energy companies expected to play a role.
The decision follows a recent U.S. operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and Trump framed the pause in further action as a response to improving cooperation between Washington and Caracas.
