During his recent State of the Union address, President Donald Trump underscored his administration’s push to reduce prescription drug costs, unveiling a federal platform called TrumpRx as part of that effort.
In his speech, Trump stated that his policies aim to bring down medication prices for Americans by tying domestic costs to rates paid in other developed countries through a “most favored nation” pricing model.
He introduced TrumpRx as a newly launched government-supported website that allows patients to purchase certain prescription drugs at reduced prices directly from pharmaceutical manufacturers instead of going through traditional insurance systems.
Trump also announced that several major pharmaceutical companies are participating in the program and emphasized that the platform is intended to provide meaningful savings on high-cost medications.
During the address, he introduced Catherine Rayner, a military spouse, as the first user of TrumpRx. According to the president, Rayner was able to obtain a fertility medication that previously cost about $4,000 for less than $500 using the new platform.
Trump urged lawmakers to pass legislation that would solidify his pricing approach, describing it as a key step toward ensuring Americans pay drug prices comparable to those in other developed nations.
The initiative follows agreements between the administration and pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer discounted medications through TrumpRx, which recently launched with dozens of brand-name drugs available at lower prices for patients with valid prescriptions.
