President Donald Trump expressed optimism today that Israel and Iran are on the verge of brokering a peace deal, citing a flurry of ongoing discussions. In a Truth Social post, he declared, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal… We will have PEACE, soon.”
In an ABC News interview, Trump suggested that the recent escalation might have hastened negotiations. He also revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has engaged in talks with him about facilitating mediation between the two nations.
Trump referenced past successes negotiating between India and Pakistan via trade incentives and indicated he hopes to replicate that model. Although he vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, he maintained that military measures remain on the table if diplomacy fails.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has signaled a continued military campaign, while Iran has launched retaliatory missile strikes in recent days. With nuclear talks in Oman suspended amid the violence, Trump emphasized the urgency of seizing this moment for peace.
