President Trump announced he will order the Defense Department to use whatever resources are available to ensure U.S. military personnel receive their October 15 paychecks — despite the ongoing government shutdown.
He called on Secretary Pete Hegseth to identify and redirect funds that could cover the salaries of active-duty service members if the shutdown extends.
The White House did not specify which accounts would be tapped or how long the arrangement might last. The efforts are limited to troops — federal civilian workers on furlough remain unpaid until a budget deal is struck.
Trump blamed Senate Democrats for the impasse, saying their refusal to pass a clean spending bill is endangering national security.
