Donald Trump has publicly forecasted that Zohran Mamdani is likely to win the upcoming New York City mayoral election. Trump made the remarks during a recent media appearance where he also characterized Mamdani with a pointed label, reflecting concern about what he sees as the ideological direction of the city’s leadership.
In the same remarks, Trump acknowledged that former Governor Andrew Cuomo remains Mamdani’s strongest competitor at the moment, but said Cuomo is trailing in current polling. Trump further suggested that the outcome could shift significantly if Adams or other leading candidates exited the race.
Mamdani, 33, won the Democratic nomination earlier this year and now faces a multi-candidate field including Cuomo (running as an independent), Eric Adams (also running independent), and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Polls released in recent weeks show Mamdani leading by double digits in a four-way contest.
