Nikki Haley, the erstwhile rival of former President Donald Trump in the GOP presidential primary, is reportedly being considered for the vice presidential position in Trump’s 2024 campaign. However, Trump has categorically dismissed these allegations. Trump clarified the situation in a post on Truth Social, saying, “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well.”
After a story surfaced suggesting Haley would run for vice president in Trump’s candidacy, her response allayed rumors. Trump’s message sought to dispel the claims from the newspaper, which had referenced people with knowledge of the dynamics inside his team.
During the Republican primary earlier this year, Nikki Haley—the former governor of South Carolina and US ambassador to the UN—launched a serious challenge against Trump. Haley’s campaign was halted despite her impressive performance in some states when Trump won a resounding majority of the primary races.
Haley has emphasized that Trump must win over the people who backed her and has not endorsed him since she withdrew from the campaign. Indicating a possible gulf between the two, she has also stopped communicating with Trump since withdrawing from the campaign.
On social media, Trump Jr., the son of the president, also responded to the VP rumors. He expressed relief and said that Haley’s team was spreading them ahead of a fundraiser for her political action committee.
Haley will meet with major campaign contributors as the 2024 election heats up to thank them for their support; but, she is not anticipated to push for Trump campaign funds at this time. As a pivotal election cycle approaches, this circumstance brings to light the complicated dynamics inside the Republican Party.
