President Donald Trump has officially revoked the extended Secret Service protection that former Vice President Kamala Harris previously received under an executive order from former President Biden. This removes all security measures beyond what the law requires—six months of post-term detail—and will take effect starting September 1, 2025.
Harris’s extended coverage, granted quietly in early 2025, had shielded her with federal agents, threat detection, and protective monitoring. With the revocation in place, that federal layer of safety will cease ahead of her planned national book tour for 107 Days, starting later this year.
California leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, denounced the move as politically driven and potentially dangerous, saying the decision endangers Harris at a time she, like all public figures, faces evolving security demands.
As Harris prepares for increased public appearances, her team is exploring alternate protection options to maintain her safety.
