Trump Says Haley ‘Probably’ Won’t Be His VP Pick: ‘She Is Not Presidential Timber’

Former President Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Concord, New Hampshire, indicated that Nikki Haley, his Republican primary opponent and former South Carolina governor, is unlikely to be his vice-presidential pick for the 2024 election. Trump’s remarks came amid speculation about his potential running mate, following reports that he had been considering Haley for the position.

During the event, Trump described Haley as “okay” but lacking the requisite qualities for presidential leadership. “She is not presidential timber,” Trump told his supporters. “And when I say that, that probably means she is not going to be chosen as the vice president.”

Trump’s comments echo similar sentiments expressed by Haley, who reportedly told her supporters that being vice president is “off the table.” “I’ve said from the very beginning: I don’t play for second. I don’t want to be anybody’s vice president. That is off the table,” Haley stated, according to POLITICO.

Both Trump and Haley are preparing for the New Hampshire primary, a critical early test in the Republican nomination race. Despite Haley’s efforts, she trails behind Trump in the polls, with the Real Clear Politics average showing her 16 points behind the former president in New Hampshire. Trump recently secured a significant victory in the Iowa caucuses, winning 98 of the state’s 99 counties and over 50% of the vote. Haley finished third in Iowa, behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

In his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump waited until securing the nomination before choosing his vice-presidential candidate, ultimately selecting Mike Pence just days before the Republican Party convention. The 2024 GOP convention is set to begin on July 15 in Milwaukee.

At the same campaign event in New Hampshire, Trump received another key endorsement from Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Scott praised Trump’s leadership, emphasizing the need for a president who will address key issues like border security, social security protection, crime reduction, and tax policy.

The endorsement from Senator Scott, coming a month before the South Carolina primary, bolsters Trump’s position as the clear frontrunner in the state’s polls.

Trump’s dismissal of Haley as a potential vice-presidential candidate highlights the ongoing dynamics and strategic considerations within the Republican Party as the 2024 election campaign progresses.
