In a wide-ranging interview filmed at his Mar-a-Lago resort, President Donald Trump defended his administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement, stating that the conduct of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “hasn’t gone far enough.” He blamed court rulings from judges appointed by former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for constraining the scope of raids.
When asked about scenes showing ICE agents using force, tearing into vehicles and deploying tear gas in residential areas, the president said the hardline tactics were justified because “you have to get the people out.” He rejected the notion that the approach was excessive and maintained that such measures are necessary to remove individuals he views as serious threats.
The interview fits into a broader moment for Trump: it marks his first appearance on 60 Minutes since he sued its parent network earlier this year. Beyond immigration, he touched on topics such as national security, the government shutdown and the upcoming presidential campaign cycle.
