President Donald Trump stated that fraudulent unemployment claims in Minnesota have surpassed $19 billion and placed blame on federal policies enacted during the Biden administration.

In recent remarks, Trump asserted that improper benefit payouts in the state represent a substantial financial loss and criticized what he characterized as lax oversight under current federal leadership. He linked the alleged scale of fraud to broader concerns about national unemployment programs and enforcement challenges.

Trump’s comments singled out Minnesota’s labor and workforce systems as an example of what he describes as widespread vulnerabilities in government benefit distribution. He said tightening eligibility rules and improving fraud detection would be key priorities of his administration’s economic agenda.

State officials have acknowledged efforts to address improper payments but have not confirmed the specific figures cited by the president. Local authorities continue to investigate claims of abuse while implementing measures intended to strengthen program integrity.

The issue has drawn attention amid ongoing debates over federal spending, unemployment benefits, and how best to safeguard taxpayer dollars. Trump used the example of Minnesota to underscore his broader argument that changes are needed at the federal level to curb fraudulent activity and protect public funds.
