During his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump highlighted the U.S. men’s hockey team’s recent Olympic gold medal victory as a reflection of national strength.

He recognized the team’s overtime win against Canada as a milestone achievement and used it to underscore his broader message that the United States is experiencing renewed progress.

Trump connected the championship moment to what he described as improving economic conditions, pointing to easing inflation and positive financial indicators.

He also announced that goaltender Connor Hellebuyck would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his role in securing the victory.

The president framed the team’s success as part of a wider narrative of American resilience and competitiveness both at home and on the global stage.
