President Donald Trump delivered a forceful speech to the graduating class at West Point, declaring the beginning of what he called a “Golden Age of America” and pledging to restore the military’s traditional role and global strength.
Speaking to over 1,000 cadets, Trump criticized prior administrations for what he described as using the military for social experiments and foreign nation-building. He vowed that under his leadership, the armed forces would return to focusing on defense, strength, and discipline.
He outlined a plan to increase military spending to $1 trillion, including the development of a new missile defense system called the “Golden Dome.” Trump also reaffirmed his decision to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion programs from military institutions, arguing that they detract from combat readiness.
The president highlighted key accomplishments by the graduating class, including the design of a hypersonic rocket and the historic completion of diver school by two female cadets.
While many in attendance applauded Trump’s promises of renewed strength, some parts of the speech, particularly references to diplomacy and restraint, drew a more measured response.
Trump closed his remarks with a message of perseverance, encouraging cadets to lead with courage and determination as they enter service during a time of national transformation.
