In a candid conversation on “The Ben Shapiro Show,” Jesse Binnall, the attorney representing former President Donald Trump, raised serious apprehensions about the recent indictment brought forth by Justice Department special investigator Jack Smith. The charges centered around alleged attempts by Trump to overturn the 2020 election, and during the interview, Binnall and Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro delved into the potential ramifications of the case.

Shapiro underscored the risky nature of the game being played, as the charges carried significant weight and posed a real possibility of conviction if the trial took place before a D.C. jury. He further expressed concern that if the Supreme Court eventually ruled in Trump’s favor upon appeal, the court’s credibility might be questioned by those on the Left, despite the decision being correct.

Binnall echoed Shapiro’s sentiments, voicing deep worry over the jeopardy posed to the entire American justice system by Smith’s actions, regardless of the trial’s outcome. He pointed out Chief Justice John Roberts, whose high regard for the judiciary’s credibility might be deeply affected by the unfolding events.

Both Shapiro and Binnall critically examined the charges and found them legally questionable. Trump faced allegations of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The implications of this case extend beyond the courtroom, as Binnall expressed fear that it could lead to future legal disasters, sparking disputes over constitutional interpretation and issues like gerrymandering. He further contended that prosecutors tend to favor the Washington, D.C., establishment, raising concerns about a potential unbalanced use of prosecutorial discretion against Trump and his supporters.

During the conversation, both Binnall and Shapiro recognized the gravity of the situation, fearing that this moment in history could be marked as a turning point with significant impacts on the nation’s unity and adherence to the rule of law.
