“Trying to Buy Votes”: Trump Destroys ‘Crooked’ Biden Student Loan Plan

In a spirited speech at the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors National Summit in Philadelphia, Trump didn’t hold back in his criticism of Biden’s “crooked” student loan forgiveness plan, coinciding with the Supreme Court’s ruling in Biden v. Arkansas.

With an enthusiastic audience before him, Trump took aim at President Biden’s proposal to forgive a portion of federal student loan debt, mocking it as he praised the Supreme Court’s earlier ruling that deemed the plan unconstitutional.

Under Biden’s proposal, borrowers with annual incomes below $125,000 would have seen their debts forgiven, with Pell Grant recipients potentially receiving up to $20,000 in relief.

Trump expressed his strong opposition, arguing that such a plan would be unfair to the millions of individuals who had diligently repaid their debts through hard work. He characterized the scheme as deeply unjust and dishonest, accusing Biden of attempting to buy votes.

The Supreme Court dealt a significant blow to the Biden administration by rejecting the notion that the HEROES Act would authorize loan forgiveness. Chief Justice John Roberts, in a 6-3 majority opinion, outlined the potential impact of the plan, noting that it would have canceled approximately $430 billion in federal student loan balances, completely wiping out the debts of 20 million borrowers and reducing the median amount owed by the remaining 23 million to $13,600 from $29,400.

The court’s decision in the lawsuit filed by six states affirmed that the HEROES Act did not provide the authority for the debt cancellation plan, aligning with the plaintiffs’ arguments.

Trump also made reference to the 303 Creative LLC. v. Elenis ruling, which upheld the right of a Christian site designer to refuse service to same-sex couples, hailing it as a significant victory for religious freedom.

In his speech, Trump underscored the importance of these recent court decisions, emphasizing his belief that they safeguarded the principles of religious freedom while discrediting what he deemed as an unfair and corrupt student loan forgiveness scheme.
