Tucker Carlson, who had the most popular prime time show on Fox News Channel, has left the company.
“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Fox News said in a statement. “We thank him for his work as a host and before that as a contributor to the network.”
The network said that Carlson has already done his last show of “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
The message went on to say, “Mr. Carlson’s last show was on Friday, April 21.” “Fox News Tonight will start airing live tonight at 8 PM ET. Until a new host is chosen, the show will be led by different FOX News celebrities who will take turns.
Carlson was almost always at the top of the numbers during prime time. He had a huge audience that was often bigger than that of all of his rivals put together. As The Daily Wire has said before, Carlson’s show in reruns often had more viewers than other networks’ original shows.
The Daily Wire was told by a source The news caught Carlson’s team by surprise. They didn’t find out until late Monday morning, when they got an email from the prime time star.
The popular host’s sudden departure comes less than a week after the network settled a case with Dominion Voting Systems for just under $800 million, narrowly avoiding a hearing where Carlson would have been expected to appear.
The news of Carlson’s departure comes just one week after Dan Bongino, a national talk radio show and former Secret Service agent, said he was leaving Fox News because he couldn’t come to an agreement on a new contract.
Bongino said on his podcast at the time, “People, I’m sorry to say that last week was my last show on Fox News on the Fox News Channel.”
“It was sad that the show ended last week. I also want you to know that it’s not a big secret. I promise you. There’s no bad blood between them. This wasn’t some kind of WWE-style fight. We just couldn’t agree on a longer time. “And that’s all there is to it,” he said.
Carlson hasn’t talked about his departure in public yet, and there haven’t been any rumors about what he might do next.
